Malaga retain Provincial Cup

Mijas members formed a significant part of the Malaga team that won the Provincial Cup against Almeria at Lauro on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th February.

Juan Abeal, John Wilson, Bill Neal, Maureen Fraser with Barbara Land, Mary Detheridge, Craig Lewis (Federated Santa Maria) were involved in both days.

Malaga won the first session on Friday 10 points to 6 points (5 wins/ 8 games) then were held to a draw in the afternoon matches to end day one 18-14. Saturday morning seen a repeat of Friday morning with another 5-3 win for Malaga and the overall score 28-20.

Almeria finished strongly in the final session which consisted of three rinks and a singles match for both the Ladies and Gents.

Both the Ladies and Gents singles which finished 19-21 in Almeria favour to close the gap to 4 points. The last game to finish was all square going into the penultimate end and Malaga picked up a double to carry a slim advantage into the final end and held on to the win despite losing a single. That single shot victory meant that Malaga won 3 of the 5 rink games to maintain the lead and avoid the count back on shot difference.
