Mijas lose out in Miraflores Finals

After a great week of bowling at the Miraflores open both Finals went to the distance.

John/Sheila Wilson and Juan Abeal from Mijas took an early lead after taking a 5 then a 3 in quick succession to lead 11-2 but Nick Cumming (Saydo), Simone Morgan/Pat Fisher (Santa Maria) picked up a number of consecutive ends and made it 15-15 to get on level terms after 16 ends and then took the lead for the first time in the 17th end when they picked up a 2. Mijas picked up a 2 with the last bowl in the final end to overturn game lie and force the extra end. However Mijas were unable to dislodge a toucher shot from the opposition skip and eventually lost the end and the game.

The Mijas Pair of John and Sheila Wilson then played John and Eleanor Morgan of Benavista in the final going down in the first set, before pulling it back to all square with a solid second set victory. Mijas won the first end of the tie break, then after a number of changes in the ownership of the shot John Morgan took the jack to the ditch to level the tie break.

Eleanor then drew onto the jack and her husband blocked of the direct line on both hands to secure the end and the title. Another great and close tussle.

Well done to all the Mijas members for their participation and generous support to our own players and their opposition through out the week and on finals day.

Thanks to all at Miraflores for a well ran competition and cordial atmosphere.
