Mijas had a couple of mixed pairs and mixed triples teams entered into the Miraflores Open Competition which was held between the 7th and 14th November.
Triples Preliminary round
John Wilson, Sheila Wilson, Kevin Bravant won 19-9 vs Terry, Ann and Rob from Benavista but then lost 13-18 to John and Carol Cooke and Robert Wright.
Juan Abeal, Ian Patterson, Joan Corbett lost out by a single shot in the final end despite picking up 3 of the 4 shots required to force the tie break against another Benavista team.
John and Sheila Wilson lost out in two sets to Nancy Shaw and Stuart Farquar of Miraflores in
the Pairs Final on Saturday afternoon 14th November. After drawing the first set 10 -10, everything hinged on the second set and it required a brilliant draw shot by Stuart to take away the Mijas game lie with his last bowl when the the scores were tied at 5-5.
John managed to hit the shot bowl with his drive, but despite moving the shot bowl and the jack he could not manage to take the shot away from the opposition, losing by a single shot. This was a high quality game with the shots lies changing numerous times on most ends and was fit for the final. Congratulations to Nancy and Stuart and thanks to the Mijas members who came to support the finals with Scottish flags.
Ian Patterson/Maureen Fraser had previously lost in the 3rd extra end of the last 16 round.
The Triples final was also a great match worthy of the final. Pat, Carol and Grant Frost of Miraflores were 11-13 down going into the 18th end and managed to take 3 shots from Malcolm from Benavista with Ann and Clive Montaut of Miraflores being the unlucky losers.
Miraflores members and their sponsor IBEX should be congratulated for running a well organised and safe competition under difficult circumstances. The FAB Malaga were instrumental in getting travel exemption between municipalities which allowed the competition to be ran to its conclusion.
