Positive Start in Quad Friendlies.

Updated: Apr 24

Despite the potential for rain Mijas got off to a positive start in the first match against La Posada in warm and pleasant conditions. Pride of place for the day goes to Ron Fox, Dave Pointer and Graeme Dunn with an outstanding home win.

Geoff, Kevin and Joan were matched up against a very strong Skip and team and managed to cancel them out on the day- well done.

Bill, Steve and Pauline had a nip and tuck battle running out winners by a couple of shots and showed the determination needed to get over the line.

5-1 home result any week of this League is absolutely brilliant.

In the away matches Ian, Ian, Juan were up against the La Posada strongest ranked team and after being 11 all after 15 ends narrowly lost the last 3 ends.

Clive, John R and Mick faced a well balanced La Posada triple on the trickiest rink but after establishing a 7-5 lead at 11 ends the home team put together a run of winning ends with a 5 and a 4 which put them too far ahead going into the last end. A good 3 shot pick up by the Mijas team in the last end showed how important those 2 big scoring ends were in determining the result of this game.

Well done guys on a dogged display on their trickiest rink.

John & Sheila W with David Prain were 5-11 down after 12 ends and a change in jack length totally changed the complexion of this game picking up a 7 and 4 in quick succession. Every other end in this game was restricted to a maximum of 2 shots and again those 2 ends were the only thing that separated the 2 teams.

My thoughts going into the League was that we need to win at least one of the away games and mission achieved.

In summary 3 wins and a draw from 6 games is what will be needed to get to the final show down with a good chance of winning this friendly League.

Mijas currently sit in second place after week 1 and only a single point behind Saydo who started with a comprehensive and unexpected 4 win/2 lose against Lauro.

In this League the clubs are asked to grade their triples and match up the rankings at the various venues so that every member is likely to get a close/competitive game.

This League is likely to go down to the very last set of matches and may well be decided on shot difference so the margin of a win or loss will be very important as we go through the remaining fixtures.

Well done to everyone involved in the first round of matches and its all about the overall clubs performance and collectively well done after we had to do some major juggling with the teams due to make sure everyone was able to get their vaccination appointments completed.

Thanks to La Posada for their company and entering into the spirit of the event.

Our match next week will be against Lauro and they will be all out to overcome their disappointment in week 1- teams will be announced on Tuesday.

If anyone has any issues regarding travel or availability please let John Wilson know as soon as possible, so we can take this into consideration.
