Mijas overcame La Posada in the Preliminary round of the Challenge Cup with a 101-86 shot win. The home teams managed 2 wins and a draw and came from behind in 2 of those games to finish with a 50-36 scoreline. The away teams managed a win and 2 loses with our winning rink finishing strongly on the second half of the game to help secure a 51-50 shot count. Congratulations to all those players and markers for helping us to complete 12 singles games during a very busy period at the club. Our focus will be on getting the prelim games beween Ewan & Ulf, Sallyann & Chris J, Dianne & Lisbeth, Ian G & Joan completed as well as Mat & Juan in the round of 32. We have made some progress with this years competition and have managed to add the 3rd player to the last 3 teams with Tom Muckley, Ulf and Astrid Bergfors now added. Two games were completed at our Tuesday 20th October roll ups. We would like to get down to the Qf stage as a minimum by 1st November. Sunday 25th looks the most likely for Classe v Ian Ps teams and Lynda vs Alan R on the 1st November. the remaining preliminary games. We can then organise the QFs in the 2nd week

Mijas hosted a 17 strong Crown Green Tour group with their organiser and Referee on the 19th October from 09.30 to 17.00 hrs. 4 matches were on the green at anyone time with jacks and bowls going off in all directions and only a few crashes like cars on a Fuengirola round about. The group played all their round robin singles matches before being forced to call it a day due to a Thunder and Lightening interruption prevented them from completing the semi final and Finals matche

Mijas sit in 2nd place in both Triples and Pairs Leagues with a rescheduled Week 1 fixture against Lauro away to be played in the Triples League on the 27th October. An 8-2 home win against Miraflores in the Triples. The losing rink was a close affair and could have wnet either way in the final end, but we eventually lost by 2 shots. The other 3 games were all comfortable wins for Mijas. A 2-8 away loss at Saydo in the Pairs could have been so much better with 2 of the games

The Mijas members hosted a 24 strong touring group from Plympton BC and despite being competitive on a number of the matches were unable to secure any rink wins. The players enjoyed a friendly drink after the games.

Classe, Kaija and Lisbeth won the all Mijas quarter final at the Benavista Classic on Monday 12th October and are the only non- Benavista team remaining. Simone, Pat and Mary lost their QF game. Classe, Kaija and Lisbeth lost the semi final to Dave and Claudia Goodwin and Julie Hall after being all square at 9-9 at the mid way stage but were unable to pick up further shots in the game. Dave and Claudia Goodwin and Julie Hall then went on to win the final.

Despite Mijas LBC week 1 fixtures being rearranged a few games were completed or conceded on the 9th October. Unfortunately, Lauro did not rearrange or field a side in their game against La Posada and a 10 Point Win and an 18 shot difference/rink awarded to La Posada per Rule 12. The Call Notice has been raised for the Ball & Chain and ARRT to be held at Mijas LBC from Monday 30 November thru Thursday 3 December. The entry will be limited to a total of 24 Pairs across the two Competitions. Extract from Call Notice and Summary of the rules is attached.

Mijas LBC hosted 23 members of Wallington BC 10 years after their last visit. Congratulations to the one Wallington BC rink on their win. Thanks to all the Mijas members that entertained the visitors on and off the rinks. We wish our visitors a pleasant end to their tour and vacation.

Thirty of the Mijas LBC members that will be involved in the League and Cup this Winter season used the cancellation of their Week 1 fixtures as an opportunity to practice in their provisional Pairs and Triples teams. We will post the Call Notice for the Saydo Open that is being held in November. This event will require players to play qualification over 2 consecutive days and then if successful play in the final day of the event. Due to Saydo having only 4 rinks the event will be restricted to 16 teams of 3 players.

A group of 15 Wymond Dell bowlers returned to Mijas to play 3x 4s and a Triple against and they put up strong resistance, before losing on all rinks. This club have been visiting Mijas for over 12 years. Thanks to all those involved in the match for making it an entertaining day for our visitors and we look forward to them coming back in 2027.

Mijas members hosted Andover (16 players) and Maryport Bowls Clubs (8 players) from the opposite ends of England in the first week of October. Although none of the visitors managed a rink win the games were keenly contested and enjoyed by both sides.

Mijas LBC had a strong representation in both the Ladies and Mens Squads that brought the Cup back to Malaga with a home win after 2 consecutive losses away from home. After Day 1 morning sessions at Lauro Malaga trailed by 6-10. Day 1 afternoon session seen a significant turn around with the Ladies winning all 4 matches while the men shared the session with 2 wins/2 losses. Giving Malaga a 18-14 lead overnight. The Call Notice for the Spanish Nationals has been posted in the club house. This event is played as Gender Specific Singles with round robin qualifying from 7th December and then knock out from the quarter final stage. It is iplayed n 2 set format through out the Competition and players should expect to play 2 games a day. Mijas has already confirmed 3 ladies and 3 gents for the event that is being held at Country Bowls approximately 12 miles east of Murcia. Lauro have also

The hosts La Posada had 3 teams in the semi finals with Mijas members Bente and Tommy completing the line up. Tommy and Bente lost semi final after taking a one shot lead after 9 ends and put up a spirited effort before eventually losing out over the last 3 ends. The final was probably the closest match in the competition with only one shot separating the teams.

Well done to everyone involved in playing, organising and helping with club and Umpire duties the Summer triples event held at Mijas from 5th September. The Winter League schedule has been prepared for the 26/27 season with 6 clubs in the Tigers - Triple League and 4 clubs entered into the Lions- Pairs League. We thank Grant Frost (Miraflores) for continuing as League Secretary for the coming season. Mijas will aim to retain the Lions League title and improve on our 3rd place finish in the Tigers League.
